RED NOSES Clowndoctors extended

Set-up with Austrian support: RED NOSES partner organisations in Poland and Lithuania

RED NOSES Clowndoctors has extended its scope of operation and with the help of the international RED NOSES Group, with its headquarter in Vienna, has set-up partner organisations in Poland and Lithuania. Before Easter the RED NOSES founder Monica Culen opened “CZERWONE NOSKI” in Warsaw, thus opening the first professional hospital clown programme in Poland. For more than one year, intensive work has been undertaken with Austrian aid in the setting-up of the new RED NOSES programme: from today the Polish RED NOSES clowns - CZERWONE NOSKI - regularly visit sick children in Polish hospitals. The foundation stone for a RED NOSES partner organisation was also laid in Lithuania. Beside Austria, there are now RED NOSES Clowndoctors internationally active in ten countries and are operatively worldwide the largest association of hospital clown organisations.

“The demand for professional clown performances, as given by RED NOSES, constantly increases. We are happy that through years of experience and the know-how of our RED NOSES group it is possible to convey from Austria our mission to more and more countries to help sick people,” says the RED NOSES founder Monica Culen, who as CEO of the international RED NOSES group has set-up ten further RED NOSES partner organisations together with Austria.

RED NOSES new in Poland

Preparations for the RED NOSES partner organisation CZERWONE NOSKI in Poland had already begun in the middle of 2012. With the support of RED NOSES International, the financial and artistic basis for the first hospital clown programme was created in Poland with specially trained artists. The artistic director of the RED NOSES group auditioned and selected ten clowns, who then took part in a multistage workshop programme to become acquainted with the standards of the RED NOSES clown work in hospitals. The official opening of CZERWONE NOSKI took place before Easter in Warsaw“. Humour, pleasure and a positive attitude to life have great influence on health. This philosophy is part of all of our dealings and the basis of our work. We strive to make visits by CZERWONE NOSKI become an integrated component for the Polish hospitals and health institutions. We take pleasure in being a part of RED NOSES International because this support makes a solid and professional set-up of our clown programme possible,” says Marcin Dudek, the new designated manager of CZERWONE NOSKI.

CZERWONE NOSKI clowns currently visit three institutions in Warsaw (Pomnik Centrum Zdrowia Dziecka: Endokrynologia i Diabetologia), Krakow (Wojewódzki Specjalistyczny Szpital Dziecięcy im. Św. Ludwika: Pediatria i Pulmonologia) and Breslau (Wojewódzki Szpital im. Gomulickiego: Pulmonologia/ Alergologia, Nefrologia i Neurologia). Two clowns come each week to the sick children in these institutions to provide variety and happy moments in the wards.

RED NOSES bring laughter to hospitals in Lithuania

Cooperation with “RAUDONOS NOSYS Gydytojai klounai” was sealed with the signing of the partner contracts on 20 March 2013. RED NOSES has fulfilled the wish of a regional clown association and to become a part of the international group. The foundation stone was laid for regular and professional clown performances in hospitals through close cooperation with the management and artistic direction of RED NOSES International. There are currently clown visits at two hospitals, including the large clinic in the capital city, Vilnius. The “RAUDONOS NOSYS” already visit patients there four times each week.

About RED NOSES Clowndoctors

Unfamiliar surroundings, fear before an operation or unpleasant examinations, long days at the hospital: it all frightens children, but also many adults. It is just there that the work of the RED NOSES Clowndoctors begins when they visit sick children and people suffering in hospital.

With laughter, songs and conjuring tricks, or simply with sensitive love and affection, in such situations the RED NOSES bring moments of happiness and a new light-heartedness. They are not doctors, but they are specially trained artists. They improvise instead of operating. They write no prescriptions, their medicine is their humour. Fear and pain are then often quickly forgotten and what remains are sparkling eyes and radiant faces.

RED NOSES Clowndoctors was founded in 1994 in Austria – 65 clowns visited 41 hospitals (144 wards, 24 out-patient clinics) in 2012 with 2,600 performances for about 128,000 sick children, adults and senior citizens “in need of humour” in Vienna, Lower Austria, Burgenland, Carinthia, Styria and Tyrol. Moreover, a new RED NOSES programme for children and youths with mental- and multiple handicaps was started. The Caravan Orchestra performed on 81 occasions at special- and remedial institutes in Vienna, Lower Austria, Burgenland and Styria.

RED NOSES: Austrian roots, worldwide demand

RED NOSES Clowndoctors is internationally active. Since 2003 out of Austria further RED NOSES organisations were successfully set-up in Germany, Hungary, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Croatia, Poland, Palestine, Lithuania and New Zealand. In 2012, 315 clowns in 11 countries visited 663,815 patients, at 447 medical- and social institutions.

The RED NOSES Group is thus the worldwide largest operative association of hospital clown organisations.
