RDEČI NOSKI Clowndoctors

With the founding of RDEČI NOSKI in Ljubljana in December 2003, RED NOSES Clowndoctors International led the way in Slovenia for this genre of charity organisation. After the selection process and the training of the first clowns, they started making their first hospital rounds in March 2004 with weekly visits to the largest children’s hospital in Slovenia, Pediatricna klinika, Ljubljana. In September 2006 the expansion of the programme to the city of Maribor began, where 26 visits a year to approximately 800 children in the hospital Splošna bolnišnica were made. A separate three visits to 90 children in two hospitals on the coast, Šempeter and Nova Gorica, were also initiated in 2006.

To prepare the clowns for the expansion of the programme, they have to receive continuous professional training. Accompanied by a large information campaign and the first local fundraising activities, the programme has received widespread recognition and sponsorship. With the setting up of the office infrastructure and further training in the areas of administration, fundraising and public relations, a competent local management team is being established.
