Running For More Smiles

Inspiring others through actions

VIENNA - 6 April 2017

How do you explain a situation where over 160 people voluntarily decide to run on behalf your organisation? When RED NOSES International learned of the overwhelming support we received from C&A Austrian and Central and Eastern Europe, we were incredibly humbled by the solidarity of their commitment to run for us at the 34th Annual Vienna City Marathon on April 23rd, 2017.

Their contributions go directly to our Intensive Smile programme in seven countries, where clowns intervene in  every day medical care in a thoughtful and caring manner.

The C&A Foundation has been supporting RED NOSES for over four years now. This is the second year in a row they have represented us at the Vienna City Marathon.

We thought it was a good idea to ask the runners what their motivation was to support RED NOSES and also how they came to their decisions.  Their reasons were philosophical, honest and also humorous! Here is a selection of their stories below.

Oliver Fassl – C&A Employee since November 2006

RNI: What motivated you to start running?

OF: I want to maintain a healthy work-life balance. I also enjoy the team spirit aspect of the relay race.

RNI: Why did you choose to run for RED NOSES Clowndoctors during the Vienna City Marathon?

OF: I wanted to run for a good cause, not only for sport.

RNI: Why do you think humour is so important in everyday life?

OF: Often, our everyday routines can be stressful. Having moments of laughter during the day can be good for the mind and the soul!

RNI: Tell us one of your favourite ways to bring more playfulness into your workplace.

OF: I always try to be in a good mood for my team and to pass it on to others whenever and whenever I can.

Monika Allmer – C&A Employee since autumn 2004

RNI: What motivated you to start running?

MA: I wanted to support the C&A Foundation and its great work in field of social responsibility.

RNI: Why did you choose to run for RED NOSES Clowndoctors during the Vienna City Marathon?

MA: Because, nothing is easier than laughing. We sometimes forget how easy it is to express our happiness simply through our own actions.

RNI: Why do you think humour is so important in everyday life?

MA: Humour is the instrument of the soul!

RNI: What sort of routine do you go through to get ready to go running?

MA: With colleagues from C&A, we run weekly in the Vienna Prater!

RNI: Tell us one of your favourite ways to bring more playfulness into your workplace?

MA: That’s easy! Just dancing in the hallways.
