RED NOSES Ambassador of Humour, Rolando Villazón, in Berlin

In order to go on his first clown visit with RED NOSES, Rolando Villazón took time off from his busy schedule in Vienna during 2010. The opera star, alias “Dr. Rollo,” recently went on a follow-up visit – this time to the St. Joseph’s Hospital in Berlin, where he was ceremoniously given his very own clown suitcase. This contained a red foam nose, a long-sleeved t-shirt and many other essential accessories needed for his work.

Dr. Rollo, gleaming with joy in his new clown costume, delivered special moments of laughter to little patients like Jessica and Vincent whilst on his round through the paediatric ward.

He was accompanied by Reinhard Horstkotte, Artistic Director of RED NOSES Germany, alias “Filou” and two other RED NOSES clowns, “Silver” and “Brischitt.”

“I think there’s a clown tucked deep down inside every single individual. One just has to learn how to let him out!” Villazón remarks. He finds the work of RED NOSES extremely important: “Clowns bring happiness and colour into the patient’s room. And when they leave 15 minutes later, an atmosphere filled with poetry lingers in the air.”

The clownesque talent hidden inside the opera star couldn’t be missed! Combining slapstick and juggling acts with plucking his ukulele and using highly expressive mimics, Dr. Rollo impersonated a great clown figure and helped the RED NOSES clowns deliver an unforgettable clown round in the hospital.
